When everybody turns to you, who do you turn to?
Who Do You Turn To? Lyrics vy Joyce Strong, Firelight Records
That question inspired my newest original song, Who Do You Turn To?
As a registered nurse for more than 40 years and a health, wellness, and executive coach for more than 15 years, I've worked with people from many backgrounds, professions, and stages of life.
One thing I've learned is that being capable, accomplished, and independent doesn't mean you always have the answers.
In fact, some of the people who could benefit most from coaching are the people everyone else relies on.
The executives making difficult decisions. The professionals carrying enormous responsibilities. The parents, caregivers, entrepreneurs, and people navigating major life changes.
They're accustomed to solving problems for other people.
But who helps them think through their own?
What Coaching Really Is
Coaching isn't about someone telling you how to live your life.
It's a collaborative partnership that creates space to step away from the daily demands, examine what's important to you, question assumptions, recognize strengths, and discover new possibilities.
As a coach, I don't assume I have your answers.
My role is to listen, ask meaningful questions, challenge your thinking when appropriate, and help you translate your insights into purposeful action.
Whether your goals involve leadership, professional performance, sport performance, health, relationships, or personal growth, the process begins with you.
Why I Wrote This Song
I wanted to describe coaching in a way that felt personal rather than clinical or corporate.
Music can sometimes communicate an experience more powerfully than an explanation.
Who Do You Turn To? is about the person who is always there for everyone else, and the possibility of finally having someone in their own corner.
I hope you'll listen and think about what having that kind of support might make possible in your life.
What's Possible for You?
You don't have to be in crisis to benefit from coaching. You may simply be ready for a different perspective, a new direction, or a meaningful change.
Sometimes one good question can open a door you didn't realize was there.
